Together with local communities, partners, and agroforestry experts, we develop and implement agroforestry systems designed to strengthen livelihoods, build land resiliency, and contribute to climate action.

Every system is shaped by local knowledge and needs. We believe agroforestry systems are most effective when they are designed with the people who rely on them.
As each project operates in a unique social, economic and environmental setting, we combine scientific expertise with vital local knowledge to design agroforestry systems that are resilient and tailored to each context - prioritizing native species whenever possible.

Turning design into impact requires hands-on support and long-term commitment. Together with our local partners, our projects provide farmers with access to high-quality, locally suitable tree species selected during the co-design process. Smallholders also receive practical and knowledge-building training to help ensure they are confident and equipped to care for their trees.
To help farmers visualize the idea agroforestry design, we work together with our local partners to co-create and distribute agroforestry postcards.

Over time, these agroforestry systems can create value for farmers on multiple levels, including:
Improved soil health and productivity
Diversified products and more stable livelihoods
Greater resilience to effects of climate change
Enhanced land productivity and ecosystem restoration

Agroforestry systems naturally capture and store carbon in both biomass and soil. Unlike short-term interventions, these systems are designed to persist and create value over time — contributing to global climate mitigation efforts, while supporting the long-term sustainability of farming communities.

Agroforestry is a long-established farming practice that integrates trees into agricultural land, bringing a wide range of benefits to farmers and their landscapes. Our approach to agroforestry design is collaborative, locally tailored, and focused on long-term success.
Depending on geographic location, the requirements for successful agroforestry vary wildly. Even within one project, different systems may be needed. So to ensure a suitable agroforestry design in the local context with native species, our agroforestry team co-develops each project’s agroforestry design together with local experts and communities.
