Smallholder farmers in the project area rely on rain-fed subsistence agriculture, leaving households exposed to volatile yields and limited income opportunities. Climate pressures are accelerating this vulnerability. Kenya faces severe land degradation, with over 12 million people living on degraded lands, alongside declining soil fertility and recurrent droughts that suppress food production and rural incomes. Limited access to training and technical support makes it even harder for farmers to adopt practices that could protect their land and livelihoods.
Our partnership with Farm Kenya focuses on enabling smallholders to adopt agroforestry systems that restore soil health, stabilize yields, and diversify income streams. Our project provides access to high‑quality planting materials, technical training, and locally relevant extension support, directly addressing the structural barriers that limit farmer productivity and climate resilience.
The project has already undertaken the following activities:
Tree seedling distribution
Implementation of a farmer specific agroforestry design
A selection of the trees (according to traditional knowledge and farmer desires)
Training sessions by lead farmers for their local community
Farmer onboarding
Farmer payouts from CRU generation
